"If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it's not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That's why it's your path."
- Joseph Campbell

About Me

My name is Marsanne Howard and I believe in the power of ceremony and ritual to move us, transform us and lovingly usher us across the large and small thresholds in our lives. I was raised in a large, loving family. My life was guided by rituals and ceremonies, large and small, from birthday parties and prayer before meals to full-on ceremonies like the coming-of-age ritual where a young adult embraces the spirit and energy of adulthood. Although I was not consciously aware of their power at the time, I do believe these customs and ceremonies provided the solid ground from which I could safely launch myself across the current threshold and onto the next adventure along my own winding road.

I have a deep reverence for the beliefs and traditions of my ancestry and acknowledge that it’s influence instilled in me a ‘holy curiosity’ for which I am grateful. This curiosity comes with a wonder and respect for all cultures, traditions and religions.  Is is also what gives me the adaptability to competently write and preside at ceremonies that are civil, secular, spiritual, multicultural and interfaith.

I love being a celebrant and feel that everything I have done up to now has been preparing me to answer this summons. I love meeting people, in their times of joy and sorrow. I love learning about who they are, their beliefs, needs and traditions, and the ceremony they need help building. And I love intuiting what symbols, readings, and rituals will reveal the grace that will guide their ceremony. I believe that every ceremony is meant to be a vehicle of transcendence for those participating and those observing, if only for a short time.

I have a teaching degree in English literature. Work and hobbies have included salmon fishing in Northern California, owning a restaurant, professional storytelling, soccer coaching and climbing the beautiful mountains for Colorado. Currently  my husband and I own a sporting goods/custom clothing store. My husband and four adult children consistently challenge me and unconditionally love me. My first grandchild is a joy!
